Description
Founded in 1921 by Italian immigrant Mariano Meconi, The Border City Winery in Ontario, Canada marked the beginning of what would become St. Julian Winery. After the repeal of Prohibition, Mariano relocated the business to Detroit, renaming it the Meconi Wine Company. In 1936, the name was changed to Italian Wine Co., coinciding with a move to its current location in Paw Paw, MI, within Michigan's premier grape-growing region, The Lake Michigan Shore Appellation. In 1941, the name was changed to St. Julian, honoring the patron saint of Mariano's hometown, a name that has endured over the decades.
St. Julian Winery has remained under family ownership and operation for four generations. The winery has maintained a long-standing commitment to supporting local farms and producing high-quality wine and juice, establishing itself as the most-awarded winery in Michigan.
St. Julian's diverse portfolio includes over 100 award-winning products, featuring distilled spirits, ciders, and a range of wines from internationally recognized dry wines to acclaimed sweet and dessert wines. The winery is also Michigan's first craft distillery, known for producing premium spirits such as vodka, rum, and brandy, many of which are made from grapes.
